About this deal

The Discrimination button is used in conjunction with the Accept/Reject button to ensure that trash is rejected. When I found the 5p on coin mode the machine showed me it was buried 2 inches. It was actually only a tiny bit beneath the muddy grass. This is a helpful feature because it prevented an 8-inch dig when I only needed 2. There are three pieces to join. The coil, the telescopic stem, and the handle. The control box is fixed to the handle already so no worries there. The modes are factory pre-set but you can adjust them if you want. Starting out I didn’t bother and the detector worked without any issues. I even found a few things! The buttons are clearly labelled Power, Discrimination, Mode, Sensitivity, Pinpoint, and Elimination (elim).

7 Best Metal Detectors for Kids: Tested (2023 Review UK)

The Garrett Ace 150 is super simple to assemble it comes in just a few parts, the brains of the detector, the pole, the coil, the coil wire, and a little wingnut to fix the coil to the pole. It will literally take you 2 minutes to put together and you can be off! Keep off heavily mineralised ground and saltwater and use the sensitivity setting to help you out if it’s struggling. As a beginner there’s enough tech to keep you occupied without adding more faff. With a folding spade included, and a belt-bag to carry it in, this DR.ÖTEK detector provides a full kit of parts, making it one of the best metal detectors for kids. The detector is splash-proof, and can be used on holidays at the beach or camping by the river, opening up a lot of possibilities for activities with the children. It also doesn’t have the iron filtering capabilities or pinpointing function of its big brothers and you may find yourself digging more trash that you’d hoped.

The inclusion of these accessories makes it a good all-inclusive buy, with the compass and excavation tools providing a good sense of adventure. Although it’s not the most powerful or effective metal detector featured here, it works well enough to get children interested. Metals can be sensed up to a depth of 10 – 15 cm. It will be able to suggest whether the find contains traces of iron, silver or gold (bear in mind that not all metal detectors can identify gold as they need to operate at a very low frequency, which not all detectors can do). There are 6 buttons on the Garrett Ace 250, Power, Discrimination, Mode, Sensitivity, Pinpoint, and Elim (Short for eliminating) and it features the simple LED display. The Garrett EuroAce control panel features just 6 buttons and has been kept simple enough for the complete novice to understand and use. The buttons are the following.Looking for only one type of metal? The ACE 250 has you covered. There are 5 different search modes available, which come with their own pre-set discrimination filters.

Relics:- Eliminates trash targets, but keeps good targets in the lower conductivity end, for example, brass and lead Something to be aware of is that it makes a lot of noise when you first turn it on– I figured this was because I was indoors surrounded by lots of metals. In the garden, it calmed down. Using metal discrimination, the metal detector can ‘discriminate’ between different types of metal. It will either use a variety of ‘beeps’ to alert you to which type of metal you have found, or actively ignore certain types of metal on request. This is useful, for example, if searching in an area with high iron-content in the ground, as the detector can ignore any iron findings. The stem is extendable as you’d expect it to be, ranging between 42 and 51 inches. I took it to the local football fields for two hours and barely noticed it. A longer walk through woodland was easy too – arm ache was never a problem. Battery life on the Garrett Ace 150 is another great feature of the machine, I personally have had between 25 – 30 hours of metal detecting from it but some users have reported more, this will depend on the quality and age of the batteries you are using. It takes 4 AA batteries to power it. I would always recommend purchasing rechargeable batteries as this will save you money in the long run.Full-size detectors tend to be extendable, but even their shortest length will be too long for a young child. Often, they range from approximately 90 – 120 cm.

Garrett Ace 150 Metal Detector Reviews

The Garrett machine comes with a 2-year warranty, and again they have created a great budget machine that seems to compete with metal detectors twice the price. When you’ve got more experience the sensitivity button can really help enhance the search because it eliminates trash and focuses more on precious metals. The one difference between this and the earlier ACE models is the new double D search coil addition! The buttons are slightly different to the previous models being that they are a little smaller so if you have got bigger hands it can perhaps be a little fiddly. The great thing about the elimination feature is that it doesn’t have to be used. I was happy to head out using factory pre-set modes and because I am quite lazy with technology, I probably won’t use it too much in future – however, it’s good to know the machine is capable of more. Pinpoint Changing the ‘sensitivity’ can alter whether the metal detector finds smaller or larger pieces of metal. Higher sensitivity will mean the detector can detect smaller pieces of metal that are more abstractly shaped. The machine is lightweight weighing just 1.27 Kgs! Making it a great detector to use all day long without causing any fatigue. It has added grip padding and elbows support padding which adds to the comfort.
